I was taught the same- and we tell our kids that their "job" until they pass grade 12 is "school" (although they should get a second, part-time job around age 15 or 16).
Ultimately, I would like to pass along the good character that helps kids do their best in school and throughout life. My oldest daughter often needs to be reminded of the "Big Picture" to be motivated to do daily studies. I'll try that with these classes, and keep praying!

Frustrating, I know. I have kept my kids from behaving this way by grounding them if they get below a certain grade average (usually 85). I had to relax this a bit for one of my kids who was honestly doing the best she could but just wasn't grasping the material.

I have a student in one of my classes who is failing. She is always on Facebook, and involved in a lot of extra curricular activities, and has a part time job. She is very capable of doing the work. . . the work she has turned in was very well done. She's just too busy.

My parents made it clear to me that school was the most important thing in my life. Everything else (job, social life, tv, etc.) was secondary, and would be removed if necessary to make more time for homework. I have tried to pass that on to my kids. They aren't always happy about it, LOL, but they have missed activities because their work wasn't done, or wasn't done right.

Wow. What a week. Hope she gets discharge approval soon. What a relief it will be for her to be back home!

Can't imagine what purpose this incident serves, but we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him. Will pray that God would use even this for the good of your precious daughter--and continue to heal, protect, and sustain her.
